3 months to GNR2022

I’m genuinely enjoying my training and I’ve managed to secure myself a 5.5 (I did actually think it was 6 but wasn’t gutted so that was a new feeling!) mile run in the bag and was proper chuffed about it!

However, this weekend, despite gorgeous weather and an early-ish night I just wasn’t feeling it. And I thought it’s important to note, that’s OK!

Does it matter in the grand scheme of life? No of course not. Does it matter in the short term scheme of completing a half marathon in 3 months? Possibly, a bit, but not so much it will matter. I mean I’m not trying to win the thing right?!

So, what now? I really don’t want to wait until next weekend before I run again, so I will squeeze in some interval runs somewhere along the lines, to get my legs moving again. An interval run basically means running at different paces rather than the long slow runs most people do, and yes, it does include walking (hooray!!) and yes it actually is very beneficial in improving running for a longer event.

This week I did focus on a little single leg strength for 15 minutes (yes I did a workout that was only 15 minutes long) it was still effective and working towards my end goal but it allowed me to keep my training varied and therefore interesting and therefore I’m not losing motivation- do you see where I’m going?!

Everyone will lose motivation at some point, but remind yourself of the end goal. Have a look at why you’re demotivated- are you tired? Burning out? Bored?

Put strategies in place to try a different tack and keep going! You’ve got this (I’m telling myself as much as you dear reader) but we have, we really have got this!

One step at a time.
